The town of Zoldo Alto, at approximately 1177 m, is a town that has a thousand inhabitants and is a so-called spread municipality as the municipal seat is situated in the locality Fusine and is including nine villages, located on both sides of the river Mae. Basically the area is composed of two valleys, the main valley that descends from Staulanza Fork and is crossed by the river Mae, and the valley Goima that starts at the Passo Duran and is traversed by the river Mojazza. >>><<<
In the heart of the Dolomites of Zoldo, surrounded by the majestic mountains Pelmo and Civetta, Zoldo Alto is one of the main gateways to the ski area “Ski Civetta”. Here you will find illuminated skiing facilities that are opened even at night and some cross-country ski trails.
As in other parts of the valley, the beautiful tabià, the typical buildings made of wood and stones, were used as barns and are now often converted into luxury homes, primarily used for tourists. Apart from winter and summer tourism, ice cream shops are here widespread and attractive. Many of this tabià can still be found in conditions of their original purpose.
In Goima you can visit the Ethnographic Museum, showing the customs of the valley. The museum explains the various activities in several areas that in past centuries were carried out in these areas (from agriculture to metallurgy, to woodworking, spinning, footwear industry). It was established in 1997 with the aim to gather and study materials about the history, economy, dialect, folklore, customs and traditions of the valley.
Do not miss the Church of Saint Valentine in Mareson. The building, small but of exquisite workmanship, is of the fifteenth century and guards inside the altar of St. Cross (Brustolon), while on the exterior there is painted the image of the patron (St. Valentine).
